Sole to Soul
Whether you’re on your feet all day for work, backpacking for a few hours at the weekend, or embarking on a Camino pilgrimage, you must have the right socks.
Your feet have 250,000 sweat glands and lose around 250ml of water a day, and when you spend several hours a day on your feet, the extra exertion increases the amount of sweat.
Most people wear socks with a cotton/nylon mix, and they’re certainly very comfortable and soft for daily use. But once cotton socks become wet they....
- Starts to feel uncomfortable.
- Will lose their form and scrunch up in your boots, creating friction against your skin.
- Soften your skin making it more elastic, limiting protection against friction and give you blisters. Blisters form when the skin has been damaged by friction or rubbing, and fluid collects between the upper layers of skin (the epidermis) and the lower layers (the dermis).
Treat your feet
If you want to really treat your feet, mohair socks are the answer. Mohair is a luxury animal fibre produced by Angora goats. It’s a fibre made up of the protein keratin (just like your own hair or silk) and is extremely strong and durable.
It’s known as the “diamond fibre” for its gloss, strength and durability. The scales of the mohair fibre are flattened and overlay each other, giving a smooth surface (unlike wool). This gives your socks their silky smooth feel and high lustre as well as their unique hard-wearing, anti-bacterial (no smell), wicking and non-felting properties.
Mohair is three times more resistant to rubbing than wool fibres, so the socks are really hard-wearing and will last for ages.
Thousands of satisfied users all over the world
Steve and Jenny, from Corrymoor Farm, in the picturesque South West of England, have been making socks with mohair from their own goats since the early 1980s with thousands of satisfied users all over the world.
Corrymoor Camino socks feel smooth and silky to touch and are a delight to have against your skin and, unlike sheep’s wool, mohair fibres are smooth so the bacteria which cause smells, have nowhere to hide, so you don’t need to wash them every time you wear them.
We find that people with sensitive skin or who can’t wear wool can wear Corrymoor Camino socks.
Soft, strong and last very long
Corrymoor Mohair socks are perfect for any outdoor activity. Not only are they great at keeping your feet fresh in the summer and warm in the winter, but they’re also incredibly soft and hard-wearing and never smell!
A Handy Tip
If you’re out for a weekend of walking or on the Camino, wear one pair of Corrymoor Camino socks until you stop for lunch, put on a fresh pair and pin the worn pair to your rucksack, and, hey presto! you’re feet feel fresh for the rest of the day, and your “dirty” socks are as good as new for the next day, no need to wash them.
